Al Sadd continue strong performance; Al Arabi, Al Gharafa suffer second loss

The 2021-2022 QNB Stars League Week 5 matches, played on 1st and 2nd October witnessed action galore. Two of the five games ended in draws and nine goals were scored.
The match between Al Duhail and Al Wakrah was postponed to a later date due to the health measures that prevented Al Duhail players from participating in training and matches.
The results:
Al Sailiya drew Al Khor 0-0
Al Arabi lost to Al Sadd 0-4
Umm Salal drew Al Shamal 1-1
Al Ahli lost to Al Rayyan 0-1
Al Gharafa lost to Qatar SC 0-2
Al Wakrah vs Al Duhail Postponed
In the first match, Al Sailiya and Al Khor played out a goalless draw to be placed 10th and 12th with four and three points respectively.
In the second match, dubbed the Qatar Derby, reigning champions Al Sadd defeated Al Arabi 4-0 to stay on top of the table with 15 points and an all-win record. Baghdad Bounedjah (59th and 76th minutes), captain Hassan Al Haydous (61st minute) and Andrew Ayew (82nd-minute penalty) scored the goals.
Al Arabi remained on nine points and are placed fourth after suffering their second defeat.
Umm Salal and Al Shamal then shared points after a 1-1 draw. Mohsin Al Yazidi (45+1 minute) scored for Al Shamal and Umm Salal equalized through Abdullah Khaled (83rd minute).
Umm Salal and Al Shamal (both four points) are placed seventh and ninth respectively.
In the fourth match, Al Rayyan defeated Al Ahli 1-0, with Yacine Brahimi (83rd-minute penalty) scoring the all-important goal, to register their first victory in this season’s league competition.
Al Rayyan took their points tally to six and are placed fifth, whereas Al Ahli stood on three points and slipped to 11th position following their second defeat.
In the last fixture, Qatar SC beat Al Gharafa 2-0. Youcef Belaili (70th and 90+2 minutes) scoring the goals. The second goal was scored with a shot taken around 50 metres from the Al Gharafa goal.
Qatar SC moved from bottom to eighth place with four points and Al Gharafa moved from fourth to third place despite the defeat and remaining on nine points following the fall of Al Arabi.
Both Al Gharafa and Al Arabi have nine points, but the former are placed ahead on goal difference (0 as against Al Arabi’s -1).
The 2021-2022 QNB Stars League’s Week 6 matches are to be played on 16th and 17th October, 2021.
