Al Rayyan beat Al Shamal 3-2 in Week 22 (final round) of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Qatar SC Stadium on Friday.
Hashem Ali (14th minute), Yacine Brahimi (26th minute) and Yohan Boli (75th minute) scored the goals for Al Rayyan, who finished their campaign in the eighth position with 24 points.
Ali Alwan scored in the 43rd minute for Al Shamal, who were helped by an own goal by Al Rayyan’s Mohammed Juma in the 63rd minute.
Al Shamal finished 10th with 22 points.
Al Rayyan were coming off a 0-1 defeat by Al Sadd in the Qatar Clasico, which was rescheduled from Week 14 and was played on 8th March.
The Lions had lost out in the Amir Cup quarterfinals last week following their 4-5 tie-breaker loss to Al Wakrah (3-3 after regular time).
Al Shamal had bowed out of the Amir Cup in the Round of 16 stage.
Al Rayyan had beaten Al Shamal 2-1 in the first leg of 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League.
On to the action, the match was exciting right throughout.
Al Rayyan took the lead through Hashem Ali off a good pass from Brahimi.
The second goal was scored by Brahimi himself with a superb shot into the far left corner of the goalkeeper.
Al Shamal did not give up and reduced the margin before the end of the half through Alwan, who finished off a move which was started off by Amjad Atwan.
In the second half, Al Shamal continued pressure in search of an equaliser and they got it past the hour mark in the form of an own goal by Juma through an attack that also involved Alwan.
However, Brahimi continued his brilliance as he played a wonderful through pass for Juma who found Boli and he found the target to hand Al Rayyan a crucial victory.
