Al Sailiya beat Umm Salal 1-0 in Week 19 of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Saturday.

Driss Fettouhi converted from the penalty spot in the 88th minute as Al Sailiya registered their second victory to be on 11 points following a series of dismal results.

The Peregrines have endured the most number of defeats (12) and are still facing the relegation threat, occupying the last position in the 12-team table for long.

Umm Salal crashed to their third successive loss (sixth overall) and remained on 25 points.

Umm Salal were close to advancing in the first half had it not been for Abdulrahman Al Rashidi’s shot which hit the post in the 19th minute.

Al Sailiya came close to scoring at the end of first half after the referee awarded a penalty kick, but VAR cancelled it.

Both teams intensified their attack at the beginning of second half. But Walter Bwalya and Mohammed Muddather for Al Sailiya and Ayman Hussein and Isael Barbosa for Umm Salal missed the opportunities.

Finally, Fettouhi was obstructed inside the penalty area and VAR awarded a penalty kick, which he himself converted to hand Al Sailiya a crucial victory.

Umm Salal and Al Sailiya had played out a goalless draw in the first leg of 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League.
