Al Duhail beat Al Shamal 4-1 in Week 18 of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Al Sadd Stadium on Wednesday.

Tournament top scorer Michael Olunga (23rd and 54th minutes), Nam Tae-Hee (45th minute) and Paulo Edmilson Junior (61st minute) scored the goals for Al Duhail as they are now on 39 points from 18 matches.

Amjad Atwan pulled one back for Al Shamal (90+3 minutes) with a penalty kick. They remained on 13 points following their 11th defeat.

Al Duhail still trail by seven points against leaders and holders Al Sadd, who have two matches in hand (against Qatar SC and Al Rayyan). The Wolves beat Umm Salal 2-0 in the day’s early kick-off.

Al Duhail took the initiative to attack from the start, relying on the speed of Nam in the middle, Ismail Mohammed on the right and Edmilson Junior on the left, besides the strike force of Kenyan striker Olunga.

As the attacks continued, Olunga gave The Red Knights the lead.

Stung by the deficit, Al Shamal sought to equalize, but Al Duhail doubled the lead in the last minute of first-half regular time through Nam’s direct free-kick.

In the second half, Al Duhail continued to press in search of more goals.

Before long, Olunga found the target off a cross from Almoez Ali.

Five minutes later, Edmilson Junior was on target with a powerful grounder from outside the penalty area that beat Al Shamal goalkeeper Marwan Sherif.

Al Shamal made attempts aimed at reducing the difference and they did score through Atwan in stoppage time with the help of a penalty.
