Close and thrilling contests marked Week 17 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League. The battle to be at the top also intensified. Al Sadd moved into the lead defeating Al Gharafa but briefly as Al Duhail were back into the leaderboard position beating Al Shahania on the second day of the round. Meanwhile, the competition continued among the middle and bottom-placed teams in the standings in attempt to finish the season in best possible positions.

Al Khor lost to Al Wakrah     1-3

Al Gharafa lost to Al Sadd     0-4

Al Rayyan bt Al Arabi  2-1

Al Duhail bt Al Shahania       2-1

Al Ahli drew Al Shamal 1-1

Qatar SC drew Umm Salal     2-2

As many as 20 goals were scored during the six matches at an average of 3.3 goals per match. The week witnessed four wins and two draws, with the biggest winning margin being achieved by Al Sadd against Al Gharafa (4-0).

A total of six penalty kicks were awarded, one of which was missed, while five kicks were converted. There were also three red cards and 21 yellow cards shown.

The competition for the top spot and to be in top four saw a lot of intensity. Al Duhail regained their lead, but with a slender one-point margin, while Al Sadd after briefly being at the top moved to second place after defeating Al Gharafa, who remained third but with a three-point difference, and Al Ahli fourth.

Al Rayyan rose to fifth from being seventh and Al Wakrah from 10th to eighth, following their wins this week; Al Rayyan benefited from Al Shahania’s stumble, as well as Al Shamal’s draw with Al Ahli to advance in the standings, while Al Arabi slid from being eighth to 10th.. Umm Salal and Al Khor remained in 11th and 12th places.

In the top scorers’ list, Algerian star and Al Shamal striker Baghdad Bounedjah maintained his lead with 17 goals. He is followed by Al Rayyan striker Roger Guedes (15 goals), while Al Sadd striker Rafa Mujica, who scored a hat-trick against Al Gharafa, now has a tally of 14 goals.
