A late stoppage-time goal from Kenji Gorre saw Umm Salal hold Qatar SC 2-2 in a scrappy affair in the concluding match of Week 17 of 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium of Qatar SC on Friday.
With both sides eagerly seeking a win to wriggle out of the relegation zone, the match provided for a lot of excitement. In the end, the two teams shared a point each, with Qatar SC taking their tally to 20 points and Umm Salal to 15 points.
Trying to force the issue, Umm Salal also ended up losing a man in Marouane Louadni as he received the marching orders for a rough tackle inside the box in the 78th minute.
While Ali Al Muhannadi (26th minute) and Kenji Gorre (90+11 minute) scored for Umm Salal, the goals for Qatar SC came in the added time of opening half - and both from penalties scored by Carlinhos (45+1 and 45+8 minute).
Umm Salal shot into the lead as Al Muhannadi made a fine angular header off a Oussama Tannane corner kick while rising high near the right post.
Umm Salal however conceded the lead as Naim Laidouni fouled with a handball inside the āDā and the referee after a VAR check awarded the penalty and Carlinhos scored from the spot to make it 1-1.
There was more trouble for Umm Salal in the added time as Louadni elbowed Carlinhos while going for a high ball and the referee ruled a penalty. Carlinhos scored again as Qatar SC went into the break at 2-1.
Later in the 71st minute Umm Salal scored through Marouane Louadni, but the goal was cancelled following a VAR as an Umm Salal player had earlier fouled with a back tackle.
Umm Salal suffered another setback as eight minutes later Louadni was asked to leave the field.
Their consistent efforts however saw Umm Salal find a fantastic equalizer towards the end in the injury time. Gorre was the man who initiated the move inside the box moving the ball left before positioning himself superbly and as a defending header came back at him, Gorre headed it back but Qatar SC goalkeeper staved it off. But Gorre was back again in front of the goal beating defenders as he ensured the ball back into the goal.
