Al Shamal beat Umm Salal 3-2 in Round 8 (Group A) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Khor Stadium on Sunday.
Jeison Escobar (30th and 44th minutes) and Ali Awad (67th minute) scored for Al Shamal.
Umm Salal struck back through Ali Al Yazidi (52nd minute) and Fahad Alawi (78th minute).
Al Shamal now have eight points, whereas Umm Salal remained on seven points.
Al Shamal have played seven rounds and Umm Salal six.
Al Shamal had lost to Al Wakrah by a 0-2 margin in Round 7, where Umm Salal did not feature.
The match started strongly and offensively by both teams, especially by Al Shamal. But soon, there was balance as the sides played the game with most of their available main players, be it foreign professionals or Qatari players.
Al Shamal led 2-0 at half-time, riding on Escobar’s brace. And they managed to add a third goal through Ali Awad after Al Yazidi reduced the margin for Umm Salal.
Fahad’s goal then gave Umm Salal hope, but the score line was not changed further.
