Al Shamal face Al Wakrah in Round 2 (Group A) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Qatar SC Stadium on Tuesday.

Al Shamal, playing in the First Division after a gap of six seasons by virtue of being the 2020-2021 season Second Division champions, had opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw with Al Ahli.

Moroccan Hisham Jadrane-coached Al Shamal are third in Group A with one point. They will hope to continue their decent run in the QNB Stars League, where they are currently placed ninth with four points. They played out a 1-1 draw with Umm Salal in Week 5.

Al Wakrah, meanwhile, are topping the group table with three points. The Blue Wave had beaten Umm Salal 5-0 in Round 1.

Al Wakrah, coached by Spaniard Marquez Lopez, are in a good position in the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League as well. They are placed sixth. Their game against Al Duhail in Week 5 was postponed to a later date due to the health measures that prevented Al Duhail players from participating in training and matches.
