The 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League’s Week 20 fixtures, held on April 28 and 29, 2023, witnessed strong competition, high-scoring matches and six victories as competition hotted up in all rungs of the table.

Al Sadd bt Al Rayyan 2-0
Al Shamal lost to Al Markhiya 1-3
Al Gharafa lost to Qatar SC 0-1
Umm Salal lost to Al Duhail 1-2
Al Arabi lost to Al Wakrah1-2
Al Ahli lost to Al Sailiya 0-4
A total of 17 goals were scored across the six matches, with an average of 2.83 per game, and Al Sailiya recorded the highest margin of victory (over Al Ahli). Al Sadd, Qatar SC and Al Sailiya kept clean sheets.
The round witnessed two red cards – Mohammed Ayash of Al Rayyan and Yazan Al Naimat of Al Ahly. Three players – Driss Fettouhi of Al Markhiya, Michael Olunga of Al Duhail and Sergio Carlos of Al Sailiya – scored two goals each.
Al Duhail consolidate lead
Al Duhail bounced back to beat Umm Salal 2-1 to stay on course for the title. Olunga struck twice (45+3 penalty and 64th minute) to dazzle for The Red Knights, while Adil Rhaili scored for Umm Salal in 45+6 minute.
Al Duhail thus moved on to 48 points on top of the table, five clear of second-placed Al Arabi, while Umm Salal remained on 16 in 11th place.
Al Wakrah shock Al Arabi
Al Wakrah defeated Al Arabi 2-1 and that widened the gap between Al Arabi and the leaders.
While Yousef Abdurisag (34th minute) and Mohammed Khaled Hassan (90+1 minute) scored for Al Wakrah, Omar Al Somah (82nd minute penalty) scored for Al Arabi.
Al Sadd win Qatar Clasico
Al Sadd won the Qatar Clasico against Al Rayyan by winning 2-0 to keep their third place in the table. Rodrigo Tabata (70th minute) and Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah (90+7 minute) scored the goals for the reigning champions.
Al Sadd now have 41 points, while Al Rayyan stood on 17 points and are in ninth spot, on better goal difference with Al Shamal who also have the same number of points.
Relegation battle hots up
Bashar Resan steered Qatar SC to an important 1-0 victory over Al Gharafa by scoring the all-important goal in the 22nd minute. The Kings moved on to 32 points in sixth place, behind on goal difference with Al Gharafa, who also have the same number of points.
Al Markhiya ensured that they avoided relegation by beating Al Shamal 3-1. Al Markhiya’s goals were scored by Driss Fettouhi (45th and 84th minutes) and Jose Correia (45+3 minute), while Al Shamal’s goal came through Al Markhiya’s Hamad Balgheit’s own goal in the 67th minute.
Al Markhiya moved on to 24 points and are in seventh place, while Al Shamal stood on 17 points (10th position).
Al Sailiya scripted another surprise in this round when they defeated Al Ahli 4-0. Sergio Vittor (34th minute), Sergio Carlos (61st and 86th minutes) and Hassan Ahmed Palang (90+5 minute) scored the goals.
Al Sailiya raised their tally to 13 points in 12th place and narrowed the gap with Umm Salal to three points (11th with 16 points). Al Ahli remained in eighth place with 21 points.

Olunga regained the position of top scorer with 17 goals. He is followed by Jacinto Dala of Al Wakrah and Omar Al Somah of Al Arabi (each 15 goals), Yousef Msakni of Al Arabi (13 goals) and Yohan Boli of Al Rayyan (12 goals).
