The curtain has come down on Week 4 of the 2023-2024 season Expo Stars League, held on September 23 and 24, 2023. The fixtures witnessed five victories and one draw between Muaither and Al Shamal as the teams competed vigorously to score points and consolidate their position in the standings.

A total of 21 goals were scored during the six matches. The Al Gharafa versus Al Duhail match witnessed the highest number of goals scored (five goals), and the Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah teams emerged with clean sheets.
The round witnessed two red cards, the first for Al Rayyan captain Abdulaziz Hatem and the second for Al Duhail defender Ruben Semedo, while Umm Salal player Oussama Tannane and Al Gharafa’s Yacine Brahimi scored two goals each in this round.
Al Rayyan lead
Al Rayyan continued their solo lead at the top of the standings by achieving their fourth successive victory and obtaining the maximum 12 points after defeating their rival Al Arabi in their highly entertaining encounter.
Al Gharafa also continued their strong performances as they defeated defending champions Al Duhail 3-2 in an exciting match to maintain second place with 10 points, the same as Al Sadd, who have the same goal difference and who defeated Qatar SC 3-1 in their match.
On the other hand, Al Wakrah advanced to fourth place with eight points, and Al Duhail are fifth with seven points.
Umm Salal achieved victory over Al Ahli with a score of 3-1 and achieved their first victory in the Expo Stars League for this season. They advanced into sixth place in the standings with five points, ahead of Muaither, who are seventh with four points.
Al Shamal and Al Arabi are in eighth and ninth place respectively with three points, and Qatar SC are 10th with two points, while Al Ahli and Al Markhiya are in 11th and 12th places with no points yet to their names.
In all, five teams, namely Al Shamal, Al Arabi, Qatar SC, Al Ahli and Al Markhiya are still in search of their first victory of the season.
Al Rayyan win the summit battle against Al Arabi and achieve a record audience attendance
The opening match of Week 4 came with an exciting victory achieved by Al Rayyan over Al Arabi in a well-attended match that witnessed a record attendance of 28,397 fans. Al Rayyan snatched the victory with a goal scored by Spaniard Rodrigo Moreno in the 90+7 minute as his team maintained their sole lead in the standings with 12 points from four wins, while Al Arabi have three points.
Umm Salal achieve first victory of the season
Umm Salal also achieved their first victory this season in the Expo Stars League by defeating Al Ahli 3-1. Umm Salal increased their points to five and Al Ahli remained without a score so far.
Al Sadd return to victory way
Al Sadd achieved an exciting victory over Qatar SC with a score of 3-1, regaining their winning momentum after tying with Al Wakrah in the third round. On the other hand, Qatar SC suffered their second defeat this season and are still searching for their first victory after drawing twice and losing twice in the four rounds.
Al Sadd raised their points to 10, while Qatar SC remained on two points and dropped to tenth place on the table.
Al Gharafa come from behind for an exciting victory over Al Duhail
Al Gharafa came from behind to record a valuable 3-2 victory over Al Duhail. The first half ended with Al Duhail leading with a goal by Mohammed Muntari. At the beginning of the second half, Yacine Brahimi scored the equalizer from a direct free-kick, and then Yohan Boli scored Al Gharafa’s second goal from a direct free kick follow-up taken by Brahimi.
While Al Gharafa were preparing to celebrate, Almoez Ali, captain of Al Duhail, scored in stoppage time to restore parity for his team. When everyone thought the match was over, Algerian Brahimi scored the third goal in the dying minutes and gained the maximum three points for Al Gharafa.
Al Wakrah confirm their worth and return to winning ways
Al Wakrah were able to confirm their worth by defeating Al Markhiya by three clean goals. The first half ended with Al Wakrah leading with a goal scored by Egyptian international Hamdi Fathi, and in the second half, Jacinto Dala doubled their lead.
The match witnessed a missed penalty kick by Al Wakrah’s Mohamed Benyettou, and before the end of the match, substitute Yousef Al Khatib scored Al Wakrah’s third goal from a mistake by Al Markhiya’s defence and the goalkeeper.
With this result, Al Wakrah are now on eight points, while Al Markhiya are at the bottom of the table without any points.
Al Shamal force draw against Muaither
Al Shamal succeeded in imposing a draw on Muaither in the encounter that ended with two goals for each team. All four goals came in the second half of the match.
Muaither raised their points to four, while Al Shamal have three.
List of scorers
Al Gharafa’s Yacine Brahimi continued to lead the scorers list with seven goals. Muaither’s Congolese player Guy Mbenza and Al Duhail’s Michael Olunga are in joint second place with five goals. Ricardo Gomez of Al Shamal and Al Ahli’s Naim Sliti are on four goals each.
