The Board of Directors of Al Wakrah Club have finalized their second deal for the new season 2024-2025, by officially signing Danish defender Alexander Scholz, coming from the Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds.

The club had signed Cape Verde striker Ricardo Gomes, coming from the Al Shamal, to compensate for the departure of Algerian Mohamed Benyettou after the end of his contract with the team.

The club stated on their official website that Scholz signed a two-season contract, to be a replacement for Australian defender Trent Sainsbury, who left the team at the end of last season, and the player participated in group training with the team.

The player signed the contract in the presence of Jassim Al Tamimi, the club’s sporting director, after all the financial details and the duration of the contract were agreed upon between the two parties.

The 30-year-old Danish defender began his football career in 2008 with the Danish team Kolding, after which he moved to the Danish team Vejle and played in their ranks in the 2010-2011 season.

Schulz had his first professional experience in New Zealand with the Stjarnan team, for which he played in the 2011-2012 season. After that, he went to Belgium and joined Lokeren, then he continued his career by moving to Standard du Lige in 2014-2015, and after three seasons he began a new experience with Club Brugge. The Belgian, and in the 2018-2019 season he returned to Denmark through the Maitland team, and the year before last he joined the Japanese club Urawa.

During his participation with various clubs, the Danish player won 9 titles, winning the Belgian League once, the Belgian Cup three times, the Belgian Super Cup once, the Danish League, and the Danish Cup, in addition to winning the Japanese League title twice with Urawa.

Al Wakrah have signed Spanish coach Angel Miguel, who will lead the team starting next season, and the team will hold their external camp in Spain during the period from July 14 to August 1.
