Al Wakrah displayed fine form as they scored a thumping 5-1 win over Qatar SC in Week 19 of the 2023-2024 season Expo Stars League at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium of Qatar Sports Club on Saturday.

While Qatar SC made a strong start scoring the opening goal in the 26th minute through Yohan Boli, The Blue Wave came back hard in the second session, with Ayoub Assal (53rd minute), Jacinto Dala (68th & 71st minutes), and Mohamed Benyettou (77th & 87th minute penalty) delivering their goals.

The win saw Al Wakrah move on to 37 points, while Qatar SC, having suffered their 10th loss of the season, remained on 16 points.

Qatar SC had a bright start to the match and launched their first big attack when their captain Javi Martinez made a big kick from well outside the box which rattled Al Wakrah goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater and while he did make a save the ball bounced out and an alert Boli rushed in to take advantage and score.

Qatar SC had another big chance in the 44th minute when Ben Malango charged down the right and made a telling kick, but hit the outside of the top on the left post.

Al Wakrah changed the script, coming back much stronger in the second half. A well-coordinated move from the left saw Omar Salah move the ball past defenders to Benyettou who set it up for a perfectly-placed Assal to fire in from top of the box into the left corner of the goal (1-1).

Angolan Dala then showed his agility as he rushed down the left to dribble his way inside the box and shoot one into the right corner of the net as Al Wakrah went up the lead (2-1).

Three minutes later, Dala was back in the act as he dashed in from the left to pick up a bouncing ball off a free-kick to head in his second goal of the match and his team’s third.

Al Wakrah was at it again and this time Dala provided a good pass for Benyettou to deflect it into the net from the right (4-1) as the team’s fans went up in joy once again.

There was more as towards the end, Qatar SC goalkeeper Sataa Al Abbasi felled Assal while going for a save and the referee called for a penalty. The VAR confirmed the decision and Benyettou scored to make the result 5-1 in Al Wakrah’s favour.
