Two second-half goals from Joselu and Ferjani Sassi helped Al Gharafa to a 2-0 win over Iraq’s Al Shorta in their AFC Champions League Elite game on Monday.

The goals, which came in the 48th minute (Joselu) and 54th minute (Sassi), ensured that The Cheetahs returned to winning ways after having suffered a 3-4 defeat against the UAE’s Sharjah FC in their opener.

The deadlock was eventually broken three minutes into the second half when Al Gharafa’s Ahmed Al Janahi intercepted a poor pass, allowing Yacine Brahimi to set up Joselu for a close-range finish.

Al Gharafa increased their advantage in the 54th minute when Brahimi’s accurate cross into the box was headed in by Sassi, eluding the outstretched goalkeeper Ahmed Basil.
