Al Duhail blanked Pakhtakor 3-0 in the fourth round of 2022 AFC Champions League Group D at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium in Buraidah on Monday.
Bassam Al Rawi (32nd minute), Michael Olunga (45+2 minute) and Almoez Ali (47th minute) scored the goals as Al Duhail moved on to nine points (three victories and one loss), while Pakhtakor stayed on three points (one victory and three defeats).
Al Duhail thus completed their dominance over Pakhtakor, having beaten them 3-2 in the third round.
Al Duhail had lost their opener 1-2 to Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun, but made a strong comeback by beating Iran’s Sepahan 1-0 in the second round.
Al Duhail went ahead through a header by Bassam after the half-hour mark following a cross from Edmilson Junior off a corner kick.
The Red Knights struck again in first-half injury time through Olunga, who hit a powerful shot from inside the penalty area.
On to the second half, Al Duhail continued to excel and added their third goal two minutes after restart, with Almoez finding the target off a pass from Edmilson.
Pakhtakor’s Mirjakhon Mirakhmadov was sent off towards the end of the game for a second bookable offence, after sliding onto a loose ball that was held by the largely untested goalkeeper Salah Zakaria.
