
Umm Salal took a early lead in QNB Stars League standings thanks to a comprehensive 3-1 win over Al Kharaitiyat on Friday evening at Al Gharafa stadium.
After a slow start, the match came to life in the 27th minute with Umm Salal midfielder Dheyab Al-Annabi registering the first chance of the tie. His shot from just outside the box just curled over the bar.
Umm Salal had the upper hand in the first half and midfielder Ismail Mahmoud broke the deadlock two minutes later as he struck a fierce shot from 25 yards out. The ball ricocheted off of the outstretched boot of Thunders defender Josue Mohy, which saw the ball loop into into the net,and give Mahmoud Jaber’s side a deserved lead.
Al Kharaitiyat tried to respond immediately as Tiberkanine Rachid turned his man inside the box before firing a shot on target that was well kept out by Umm Salal’s No.1, Basel Zaidan.
With half time approaching Umm Salal doubled their lead from the penalty spot Ivorian striker Yannick Saghbo cooly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, after Abdraman Mahamat was adjudged to handle the ball.
Al Kharaitiyat fought back in the second half and were able to pull a goal back on 71st minute as as down Mehadi Al Khamasi pounced on a ball knocked down on the edge of the area and drilled the ball low into the bottom corner.
However Umm Salal grabbed a third to seal the win deep into injury time. Substitute Abdulaziz Al-Yahri masterfully beat the Kharaitiyat offside trap to calmly slot it past the goalkeeper and pick up all three points for the Orange Fortress.
