Recently crowned Qatar Cup winners El Jaish faltered in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday evening, going down 2-0 to Saudi Arabian Champions Al Ahli. Goals in the second half from Marquinho and Osama Hawsawi ensured all three points for Ahli.

Ahli where in command throughout the game, and had two headed chances to take the lead. However Mohammed Al Fatil and Muhannad Al Asiri’s efforts just went over the bar. Despite being pushed back for large parts of the first half, Jaish did register two chances of note via attacker Wagner Ribero. However his long range strikes failed to find the back of the net.

The introduction of Greek international Giannis Fetfatzidis at half time titled the tie in Ahli’s favor. In the 62nd minute Fetfatzidis released Mansoor Al Harbi on the left side of the penalty area and his cut-back from the bye-line was parried into the path of Marquinho by Mubarak and the midfielder made no mistake to give his side the lead.

Former Al Hilal defender Hawsawi ensured Al Ahli took all three points when he stooped to head the ball home in the 85th minute following Fetfatzidis’ corner from the left side. Despite the defeat, El Jaish had already qualified for the round of 16 in the AFC Champions League.
