QSL side Lekhwiya has formally introduced new signing Youssef El Arabi to the media after signing a three year deal with the Red Knights.

The Moroccan international, who previously played for Spanish side Granada in expressed his joy at joining one of the most successful clubs in Qatar. “I am happy to be with Lekhwiya, my aim is to win trophies with this side and continue the reputation that Lekhwiya has in Qatar. Whilst internationally I want to win the AFC Champions league with Lekhwiya.”

Whilst assistant coach Bruno Oliveira was pleased that the Red Knights were able to land their number one transfer target. “Youssef was a player that we had been following for a long time. We believe he is the perfect player for our style of play. The club made a big effort to get him; he was our number one choice so we are happy to have him and looking forward to Youseff to contributing and adding goals to the side in the new QSL season.”

El Arabi has been in fine goal scoring form with his previous sides, and certainly has comparisons with his compatriot Abdulrazak Hamdullah who lit up the QSL in his debut season, eventually sharing the Mansor Muftah award. Despite the similarities, Al Arabi has some clear targets in mind ahead of the new QSL season, which starts on the 15th of September.

“What Hamdullah in the QSL last season was fantastic, however I have my own targets. I have come to this club to score goals and win trophies.  Personally of course I want to be the top scorer in the league, but football is a team sport if I score it is because the whole team has done well and that is important for me.”

Lekhwiya will now continue to train in Doha and take part in a number of friendly clashes culminating in facing QSL champions Al Rayyan on the 12th of September in the Sheikh Jassim Cup, the traditional curtain raiser for the start of the domestic football season in Qatar.Lekhwiya will then begin to focus on the QSL season on the 17th of September, when they will take on newly promoted Muiater.
