Al Ahli’s Congolese striker Alain Dioko is set to break his personal goal scoring tally in the upcoming rounds of the Qatar Stars League. Last season the striker scored an impressive 22 goals for the Brigadiers who went on to finish in mid-table. However with six rounds to go, Al Ahli’s Mr. consistent is just two goals shy of his personal record.

QSL Online therefore decided to have a closer look at the man who has contributed almost half of Al Ahli’s 40 goals this season.

Firstly it’s important to note that Dioko is a man for the big occasion having scored five goals against the four teams currently above Ahli in the Qatar Stars League.  His goals against the current top four have directly resulted in five vital points for his side, including an important win against Jaish back in February. This strong form has propelled Ahli from mid-table to within a chance of qualifying for this year’s Qatar Cup for the first time in their long history.
Dioko also tends to finish games strongly, 13 of his 20 goals this season have come in the final thirty minutes of matches. With the striker’s blistering pace and clinical finishing on the counter attack for Ahli, he has been terrifying defenses all season long.

Crucially the DR Congo international has almost single handedly pulled up Al Ahli this season. In exclusive data provided from PROZONE, it is clear to see that without his goals, the Brigadiers would be hovering over the QSL relegation zone. To date without Dioko’s goals Ahli would be thirteen points less off overall with the striker’s goals contributing directly to five wins for his team.

Whilst head coach Zlatko Kranjčar is eager to play down the reliance on Ahli’s star man “Ahli is not just about Dioko, he’s a great player. However the results that we have are down to a team effort. Even if the opposition closes down Dioko, there are other players like Meshaal Abdullah, who are more than capable of doing the job. We're a team with a lot of high quality players.” Prozone statistics would seem to say otherwise on the matter.

Last season, Dioko was subject to a bid from Saudi champions Al Nassr, but with the Greens holding onto their star man, there is no doubt that it was perhaps once of the most important QSL club decisions over the summer transfer period.

It is highly likely that Dioko is once again gaining the interest of the top sides in Qatar and abroad. Hopefully with a strong finish to the season, the Brigadiers could qualify for the Qatar Cup and grab their first piece of silverware since their second division title win back in 2012.
