Young midfielder targeting trophies in first full season with Red Knights

Lekhwiya youngster Almoez Ali believes his side will continue their early season form in defeating Al Gharafa in the closing match of round 2 of the QSL season. Lekhwiya are set to take on the Cheetahs on Saturday the 24th of September at Al Gharafa stadium. The midfielder gave his thoughts on the clash in a exclusive interview with QSL online.

Opening up Almoez stressed that taking on Gharafa will be an early test for his Lekhwiya side; “The tie against Al Gharafa will not be easy, they lost to Al Ahli in the opening game and will be eager to get their first points of the season. That said, we are confident that we can come away with all three points.”

When pushed on a result the youngster stressed that his side have confidence on their side. “I think we can win by two goals in this match. We have started the season well with a big 4-0 win against Muaither, I also scored a goal and this gives me confidence we can pull off a result against Al Gharafa.”

Almoez was also quick to sing the praises of former Lekhwiya attacker Vladimir Weiss who now represents Al Gharafa; “Al Gharafa have many good player in their squad, particularly Vladimir Weiss who played well at the European Championships. He knows about our team, but we also have players such as Nam Tae Hee and Karim Boudiaf who can swing the game in our favor.”

Reflecting on his own personal aims for the season, the former Aspire Acadamy graduate believes he can step up this season for the Red Knights. “I started the first game of the season, which was important for me. My aim is to start as many games as possible and help the team perform well.”

Concluding the interview, Almoez stressed that Lekhiwya will be looking to lift the QSL falcon shield for the fifth time in their history. “A big club like Lekhwiya is always aiming to lift the league title. It really hurt the team that we didn’t lift the title last season, and this is our focus again.”
