Clasico set to be a memorable one for Qatar international defender
Al Sadd defender Abdulkarim Hassan is expecting a fiery Qatar Clasico encounter when his side takes on the reigning QSL champions on Wednesday evening. The Qatar international player gave his thoughts to QSL online in an exclusive interview, ahead of one of the biggest games in the Qatar football calendar.
Opening up the conversation Abdulkarim revealed his excitement in taking part in the game. “It’s the Qatar Clasico and it’s going to be a good game. Games between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan are always special for both the fans and the players. For me right now I am excited, and looking forward in battling for Al Sadd against Al Rayyan.”
“Both Al Sadd and Al Rayyan will be fighting for the title this season, and looking at the moment to cut down the lead of El Jaish who is four points clear at the top of the table from us” added the young defender when asked of the importance of this seasons clasico match.
Abdulkarim also revealed that his side’s team ethic could be crucial ahead of their crunch match against their oldest rivals. “For Al Sadd we hope to win and god willing I believe that we have the quality to succeed against Al Rayyan. Everyone at Al Sadd can make a difference in the game, it’s important in this big game that we can stay focused on the challenge ahead.”
Games between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan have been closely contested ties down the years, and are often packed full of incident, the wingback is expecting more of the same on Wednesday evening. “Clasico’s are always feisty matches with plenty of the line. I am expecting more of the same against Al Rayyan with big tackles and talking points in the match.”
Abdulkarim has been one of Al Sadd’s most constant performers this season and is hoping his good from can aid the side in the clasico. “For me I am feeling good at the moment, and putting in good performances for the team, working to what the coach wants from me. I hope I can help the side win against Al Rayyan.”
Ending the conversation, Abdulkarim issued a rallying cry to the Al Sadd fans ahead of the derby. “Al Rayyan didn’t defeat us last season and we know that they will have many fans at the stadium. We need our fans to support us on Wednesday and we will give our best to give them a result they can be proud of. It will be a big game for both the players and the fans and I hope we can get the result we need.”
