It’s win or bust for Wakrah against relegation rivals Al Khor

Al Wakrah take on Al Khor in a must win match for Kais Yâakoubi's side on Saturday evening. It’s been a season to forget for The Blue Waves who are currently rooted to the bottom of the QSL standings. Wakrah must register a win against their relegation rivals Khor or be formally relegated to the Qatar Gas League.

It’s going to be a major ask for the Blue Waves who have only registered two victories all season. However Wakrah did pick their first victory of the season against a Khor with a narrow 1-0 win back in December and that will be a source of strength for the squad.  Midfielder Mouhcine Moutouali scored the only goal on the day, and Wakrah will again be relying on the Moroccan number ten to pull his side to victory again.

As for Al Khor, they are currently in 11th place in the QSL standings, and could be set for a relegation play-off against Qatar SC of the Qatar Gas League, should they remain eleventh come the end of the season. Khor officials have been clear over the last few weeks that their side can beat the drop and avoid the play-off game.

Head coach Jean Fernandez is a seasoned tactician who has had his fair share of relegation battles in his time. The French coach will be well aware that a victory over Wakrah will aid his side mentally by relegating a rival, giving them much needed momentum heading into the final two games of the campaign.

Brazilian import Madson has been ever present at Al Khor this season, and will be targeting to add to his tally of six goals this season. Deadly from set-pieces and on the counter, Al Wakrah will look to silence the diminutive play-maker who tends to set up in the games that matter for the Knights.

Saturday’s clash at Al Wakrah stadium will be a must watch match as Wakrah look to maintain their status in the QSL for at least another round against relegation rivals Al Khor. You can pick up tickets for the game here
