Al Sadd knew that things would be out of their hands tonight as they needed Al Ahli to beat Lekhwiya to have any hope of still being able to cinch the Qatar Stars League title.

The first 20 minutes were a fierce and nervy affair as both teams failed to find a way through. Then El Jaish won a penalty in the 22nd minute, Al Sadd head coach Hussein Ammouta looked to the heavens for help and he duly got it as Brazilian forward Romarinho had a rare miss from 12 yards out.

After this scare the Wolves awoke from their slumber and Muriqui put them in the lead in the 34th minute. The Brazilian had a snap shot from close range as the keeper had no time to react to the ball which zipped past him as a sizzling rate. It was Muriqui’s 4th goal of the season.

However Jaish were then awarded a second penalty in the 43rd minute, this time penalty duties were deferred to Wessam Rizk who smashed his effort straight down the middle, off the bar and into the goal. It was the captain’s second goal of an injury riddled season.

Just when Jaish thought that they would go into the break level with the Wolves, up popped central defender Lee.  The Korean latched onto the set piece with a fierce header that came off Saoud Mobarak Al khater , the Jaish defender was credited with the own goal but the replay showed that in fact the ball came off the Jaish keeper last.

In the Second half the relentless pace continued as Khalfan Ibrahim scored a delicious chip in the 49th minute to make it 3-1. It was the playmakers 11th goal of the season.

Then Hassan Al Haydous made it 4-1 with his sliced shot that still managed to squeeze past the Jaish keeper on his near side (82’).

Just three minutes later, Wagner Ribeiro who is now back in favour under new head coach Sabri Lamouchi made it 4-2 with his goal, but by this stage El Jaish knew the game was up as they went into the last few minutes.

To add insult to injury Grafite then scored Sadd’s fifth with a fine individual effort from the left,  he turned the Jaish defenders inside-out before letting loose with  a low drive that just squeezed under the keeper and into the back of the net.

Despite Sadd winning, they were sure to have been told that after the final whistle that Lekhwiya had beaten Al Ahli to take the 2015 QSL title.

Sadd had led the league for in various stages this season but injuries to key players, plus a few freak losses cost them dear in the second half of the season. However the turning point came in the loss to Lekhwiya back o round 21, after that Lekhwiya went on a strong run and despite a momentary scare against Shahania (3-3), Lekhwiya made it back to back titles with tonight’s win over Al Ahli.
