Reigning QSL champions Al Rayyan grabbed their first preseason win of the season, and also picked up the Festa d'Elx trophy by defeating Spanish side Elche 4-2 on penalties.
The tie was a tame affair, and finished 0-0 at full time, heading straight to penalties. Rayyan keeper Saud Al Hajiri was the star man for his side, stopping three Elche spot kicks. The result means that Al Rayyan is the first Asian team to lift the trophy.
Al Rayyan will now begin to prepare for their friendly tie of preseason, when they take on FC Cartagena on the 14th of August, whilst Jorge Fossati’s side will round off their preparations against a so far unnamed side on the 19th of August.
The club will then leave on the next day back to Qatar to prepare for the defense of the QSL title which they won last season.
