Qatar’s Al Rayyan target their second victory when they host the UAE’s Al Wahda in Group B of the 2019 AFC Champions League on Tuesday, 9th April. The kick-off is at the Al Sadd Stadium, where Al Rayyan play their home matches, at 18:45.

All four teams in the group (Al Ittihad and Lokomotiv being the others) are level on three points after two matches and three of them also have the same goal-difference of +1. Al Rayyan occupy the final spot with a goal difference of -3.

Al Rayyan recovered from an abysmal performance in Jeddah that saw them lose 1-5 to Al Ittihad. Goals from Luca Borges and Gelmin Rivas earned them a 2-1 home win against Lokomotiv in their second game.

Al Rayyan are currently fourth in the QNB Stars League standings with 34 points, one less than third-placed Al Sailiya.

In fact, Al Rayyan and Al Sailiya played out a 2-2 draw in a QNB Stars League Week 21 thriller last week. The Lions now have a chance to finish third depending on their result against Qatar SC in the last round. It will also depend on the result of Al Sailiya against Al Kharaitiyat.

Third place in QNB Stars League will guarantee Al Rayyan a berth in next year’s AFC Champions League proper, without having to qualify through play-off.

Al Rayyan mainly have the services of Rodrigo Tabata, Sebastian Soria, Rivas and Luca, with strong support from Khalfan Ibrahim, Abdulrahman Al Harazi, Ahmed Abdelmaksood, Koh Myong-Jin and Gonzalo Vieira.
