Al Asmakh F.M. face ALYSJ in third-place play-off of the Sixth Workers Cup on Friday, 16th March. The kick-off is at the Al Duhail Stadium at 09:00.

Al Asmakh F.M. lost to Doha Pest Control 7-8 on penalties in the first semifinal played on Friday, 9th March. The tie-breaker was enforced when the teams played out a 1-1 draw after 50 minutes of regulation time.

ALYSJ also lost their semifinal, 2-4 to defending champions Nakheel, in shoot-out. Both sides played out a 1-1 draw at full time.

Al Asmakh had even taken the lead against Doha Pest Control before losing the plot in the tie-breaker.

In shoot-out, neither goalkeeper saved the first five kicks. Both teams then matched each other right until sudden death when a brilliant save from Doha Pest Control keeper gave his side the chance to head for the final.

ALYSJ in fact had a dream run in the tournament, organised by the Qatar Stars League and sponsored by Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy. However, they too suffered a heartbreak in the last-four stage.

Vincent and Ibrahim were successful from the spot, but Ali Awadu struck the bar and Mustafa’s effort was saved by Nakheel goalkeeper Annasse Youssef.

Mohammed Ait Braik, Ange Bengono, Younous Abakar and Jacques Daniels were successful from the spot for Nakheel.

Matches are played on Fridays in the tournament that started on 2nd February. Entry is free for the public. The final is scheduled for 23rd March.

The tournament’s main objective is to promote a culture of sport and healthy lifestyle in the community of migrant workers engaged in various projects across the State of Qatar, especially those related to the infrastructure of 2022 FIFA World Cup.
