Qatar’s Al Sadd completed back-to-back wins in Group C of the AFC Champions League when they defeated Iranian champions Persepolis 3-1 at home on Tuesday.

Baghdad Bounedjah struck in the 36th and 51st minutes, and Boualem Khoukhi aded a third in the 66th as The Wolves scored their second successive win in Asia’s premier competition.

Bounedjah had scored both goals in their 2-1 victory over the UAE’s Al Wasl in the opening round.

Al Sadd top the group with six points.

Jesualdo Ferreira’s men started off the game on the front foot, with the trio of Xavi Hernandez, Akram Afif and Bounedjah linking well in attack. Their dominance paid off when an unmarked Bounedjah surged into the box to meet Afif’s cross and head in the first goal.

After ending the first half without a shot on target, Persepolis came into the second half looking to make amends.

However, the visitors’ hopes were dashed as Bounedjah got on the scoresheet once again. A clever assist from Xavi set up the Algerian striker, who took his time in the box before netting with a curled finish for his fourth goal of the campaign.

Al Sadd added to their lead when substitute Khoukhi scored with a stinging shot after being teed up by Ali Asad.

The hosts were denied a clean sheet deep into stoppage time after Persepolis earned a consolation goal through Siamak Nemati.
