The Workers Cup kicked off on Friday evening at Qatar SC stadium, with an opening ceremony for the twenty-four teams competing in the joint venture Organised by the Qatar Stars League (QSL) and sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC). Representatives from all teams taking part in the competition where greeted by QSL CEO Mr Hani Ballan.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Hani Ballan noted the growing stature of the tournament, which is now in its fourth year. “This tournament is our way of giving back to the community and to the people who are all working hard to help Qatar grow, ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, more teams have joined the competition this year, showing the importance of the tournament within Qatar.”

The opening match of the tournament saw AALCO Group lose 5-0 to a dominant Nakheel landscapes. The commanding victory in the Group A clash was witnessed by over 6,000 fans at Qatar SC stadium.  Left back Stanley Amaechi grabbed two goals for his side, along with strikes from Ismail Habibur, Mohammed Ariful & Ahmed Abdelhalim made sure that Nakheel started life in group A with a comfortable win.

Matches will now take place every Friday at the QFA technical committee, with the showpiece final taking place on Friday the 6th of May at Al Sadd stadium. For all the latest news and updates on the tournament visit workerscup.qa
