Match 17: ETA 10 vs DicoTech 0
DicoTech was coming into the game aiming for a win and hoping to qualify by counting on GCC to maintain their winning streak by beating Regency in the other match that was played simultaneously. Unfortunately for DicoTech that wasn’t the case, they were dominated by ETA Stars from start to finish.
The ETA Stars had 10 players on the pitch. Scoring goal after goal, the game ended with an outstanding ten goals to nil. The game was entirely played in DicoTech's half.
Many of the players deserved the man of the match award, as ETA’s number 10 Tenghen got a hat trick. The award went to their number 6 Limbo Anselem, who scored two and assisted three other goals.
Match 18: GCC 5 vs Regency 0
GCC continued their 100% record with yet another strong showing while maintaining their clean sheet. GCC have scored 17 goals in their first three matches and conceded none.
It took GCC 18 minutes to open the score through their number 16, Jasper Abbey, and doubled the score line two minutes later with a screamer by their number 18 Eric Ouma,. As soon as the second half started, it was visible that Regency started to give up, as they had no chance of qualifying to the next round. The next 3 goals were scored by the man of the match Kelvin Otienno scoring in minutes 37, 44 and 57.
Topping their group, GCC will now have their eyes on group B to find out if they will have a repeat of last year’s semifinals against Outlook, or face another tough contender - Al Asmakh Contracting.
Match 19: Outlook 2 vs Al Asmakh 1
Without a doubt the most exciting and intense game of the third round. A game to decide the winner of the group and to find out who will face the dreaded GCC who topped group A. Outlook, with their neat speedy tiki-taka style of football, and Al Asmakh with their aggressive offensive style of football.
It took Outlook just two minutes to score from a set piece, breaking the offside trap; Outlooks number 10 Sinchuri took the lead for his team. 10 minutes later Al Asmakh's number 13, Oppong was taken down in the box and was awarded the penalty.
It was a dubious penalty as one would argue that the Outlook defender got the ball. The same player took the shot to the right of the keepe but the effort was saved!
In the 21st minute, Alex Oppong, received a beautiful cross, he controlled it and blasts it into the back of the net. This was the first goal conceded by Outlook, and knowing Outlooks organized defense, AlAsmakh and their fans celebrated for a few minutes.
Two minutes before the end, Al Asmakh's number 9 went through one-on-one with the keeper and scored. The fans celebrated, only for it to be ruled offside. 1-1 the first half ended.
The Second half, things were looking more compact, Outlook looked like the ones more likely to score. They eventually got the penalty they deserved in 13th minute. The foul was on last year’s player of the tournament Raj Kumar, nicknamed the Nepali Messi .
He stepped up for the penalty and shot it to the keepers left side, but Al Asmakh’s keeper stretched and managed to save yet another penalty in the game!
Just four minutes before the end, Kumar got the ball at the edge of the area, twisted and turned and then struck a beautiful curling shot which hit the back of the net! Roars from the stands and Outlooks bench, as this seemed like the winning goal and indeed it was. Kumar was named man of this match.
Al Asmakh put up a fight and deserved to be in the next round as they finish second place in Group B, they will now face the tournament`s favorite GCC, while Outlook will face another tough team - ETA star.
Game 20: QAS 5 vs Trags 0
This match was pretty much a decider as to who gets third place in group B. Both teams entered this match with zero points, losing to Al Asmakh and Outlook in their opening matches.
QAS were always on the attack from kickoff, but weren’t able to score in the first half. All 5 goals for QAS came in the second half from minute 46 onwards. Trags were always on the defensive trying to get a point out of this match
Number 13, Binod Gurung, scored two goals for QAS and won man of the match award.
Match 21: Carillion 3 vs Byrne 1
Carillion with one point from their first two matches came into this game with a chance of qualifying to the next round. However, they will need a favor from Midmac in beating Delta in the other group C match with a goal difference of more than 3 goals.
The first half ended scoreless, with pretty much no shots on goal from either side. But the second half is where all the action started. After 12 minutes, Byrne scored their first goal in the tournament courtesy of their number 22 Padam Khadka. That goal was short lived as Carillion scored a minute later by the man of the match Roshan Bhattarai. Minute 51 and 55, Carillion scored another two goals winning the game 3-1 and praying for Midmac to win substantially in the other game.
Match 22: Midmac 1 vs Delta 1
It was a game to decide who would win the Group. With Midmac already qualifying with their impressive 100% record from the first two rounds, and 9 goals scored with none conceded. Delta entered the game with 4 points, a win might of seen them top the group.
Delta took the lead after 10 minutes of the first half through their number 9 Chaudhary. From there on Midmac woke up and kept attacking, they got their reward in 22nd minute through their number 00 Gideon Domfeh.
Both teams were cautious, one team not wanting to concede and exit the tournament and the other wanting to stay as the king of group C. The game ended 1-1 with Micmac topping group C and Delta Corporation coming in second. The man of the match award went to Midmac's number 8 Tengey.
Game 23 Amana 1 vs AALCO 0
The match was played at Al Wakrah Stadium in front of more than 4200 supporters, this game was a decider to who would qualify from group D. With Amana second and on four points and AALCO with 3 points, AALCOS only hope of qualifying would be to win this match.
The game was kicked off knowing that Mowasalat already won their game against HBK, both teams were therefore aiming for the second place in group D.
Both teams were playing a defensive game, trying to be as cautious as possible. Last year’s bronze winners Amana, were a big threat in the first half, but the first half ended scoreless.
Two minutes after the second half kicked off, Gyamfi Amanas number 10 scored the goal of the round. Shooting from outside the box, Gyamfi shot left no chance for Aalco`s keeper. The noisy crowd erupted in the stadium and hoped the game would end sson to guarantee them a well-deserved qualification with a fantastic goal.
AALCO`s Bahadur was all over the pitch, trying to find an opening to score that precious goal but without any luck. However he was awarded with the man of the match award.
Match 24 Mowasalat 8 vs HBK 0
Going in to this game already qualified on four points, Mowasalat scored goal after goal in this encounter. HBK were defending the entire game, but the team was not well organized.
Surprisingly, there were 8 different names on the score sheet by Mowasalat. But Yakubu Al Hassan Mowasalat's number 10 was the outstanding player of this match, scoring one and assisting 2 others, he fully deserved the man of the match award.
With this type of performance, Mowasalat are strong contenders to go far in this tournament.
