Legendary Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is looking forward to facing former club Inter Milan in Doha on 30 December

Superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic can’t wait to return to Qatar for Paris Saint-Germain’s upcoming friendly match against Inter Milan.

The Sweden captain, who recently became PSG’s record goal scorer, said fans of both European giants would enjoy the Doha trip.

PSG will face Inter at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Wednesday 30 December, kick-off 7.30pm. Tickets for the match are still available via www.qfa.com.qa.

Ibrahimovic, who won three titles with Inter between 2006 and 2009, said: “I’ve been to Qatar a couple of times and it’s a very nice place. I think it will be great to play Inter in Doha. Every time we have visited Qatar we have enjoyed great preparation, so I’m looking forward to going back. It will also be good for the fans – they will be happy in Qatar.”

PSG have been in imperious form on the domestic front and are currently enjoying a big lead at the top of France’s Ligue 1. The Parisian giants have also qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League – one of the few competitions Ibrahimovic has failed to win during his illustrious career.

“I still have a chance to win it,” said Ibrahimovic. “I’m with a great team that can win the trophy. It is one of my objectives to win the Champions League.

“My career is packed with trophies already, but the Champions League is a huge challenge. We’ll see what happens this year. If we don’t win it, I’ll still be happy with what I’ve achieved.”

PSG have drawn English Premier League champions Chelsea in the last 16, and Ibrahimovic knows the Blues will prove tough opponents, despite their poor league form this season.

“Although they are struggling at the moment, it won’t be an easy game. We have respect for Chelsea and will not underestimate them because they have great players. They are highly experienced in the Champions League.”

Thirty-four-year-old Ibrahimovic could become an even more familiar face to football fans in Doha after not ruling out the possibility of joining a Qatar Stars League side.

"I don't know what will happen next season. I don’t know how I will feel physically and mentally when my contract expires. There could be a possibility I will go to Qatar. For my fans in Doha, we will be playing there soon and I’m looking forward to it.”

Ibrahimovic also had kind words about the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, which will be held in Qatar.

“I’m sure everyone will enjoy the World Cup in Qatar. I think it will be amazing there, so it’s something I don’t want to miss. I don’t know what I will be doing in 2022 as it is so far in the future. I don’t plan things – I just take it as it comes. But I definitely want to be involved.”

The former Barcelona, Ajax and Juventus star said he was proud to have contributed to the rise of PSG since the club was taken over by Qatar Sports Investments.

“Before I came here, I knew it would be a big challenge for me. I knew the club wanted something big; something great on the pitch. I also knew they wanted to raise the profile of the club. I am glad I came when they started this project.

"I knew I would make history with this club. It will be great in future to sit back and say ‘I was part of that project’.”
