Yousef Adam cuts a confident figure on the training pitch as Al Arabi begins warming up ahead of their third training session of the new season. Adam recently just moved to Arabi as assistant coach, after a successful caretaker stint at Al Ahli, turning the fortunes around of the relegation threatened club leading them to a sixth placed finish. QSL online chatted with the head coach to get his thoughts on his new club.
The former Meisameer head coach expressed his pride in joining The Dream Team and certainly seemed to be relishing the challenge ahead with the club. “I’m really excited to be joining such a prestigious club in Al Arabi, the welcome I have received from everyone has been amazing.”
“The team management has very ambitious plans for the side this season, and that has been shown in our signings so far and training has been going well.” It’s been a busy summer for Al Arabi thus far, with four signings so far along with a new coach in Gerardo Pelusso however Adam believes the signings can improve the fortunes of Arabi, who are looking for their first QSL title since 1997.
“I think that our signings shows are intent for the season ahead. Our local players will add depth to our squad; players like Wagner and Mohammed Juuma have won trophies in recent years and can add to our winning mentality. Whilst Luis Jiménez has proven quality in the UAE and can help this side this season.”
Adam was also quick to praise new coach Gerardo Pelusso who has only just arrived at the club. “Pelusso will improve this side, I have only met him and his staff a few times now but I like their style and how they want to play football. Working with Pelusso and his staff can only improve my own knowledge and skills as I am only very early in my own football career.”
Concluding the interview Adam certainly seemed quietly confident of his side’s chances for a trophy this season. “I was attracted to work in the Al Arabi family by the ambitions of the management and the quality of the players in the side. It is early to say but I feel we can achieve things with this group, after all I came to Al Arabi to win trophies.”
Al Arabi is now set to train in Doha till the 30th of July, before heading to their preseason training camp in Nuremberg, Germany till the 26th of August.
