Round 7 resumed after a two week break and Umm Salal travelled to the Thani bin Jassim stadium to take on the home side - Al Shahania. This mid table clash was the featured match and saw two teams with similar levels of form.
Umm Salal drew their previous game in a tame encounter against Al Wakrah and Shahania were looking to rebound after a tough loss to Al Khor in the round before.
New signing Abdulgadir Ilyas Adam wrote his own story with three great goals on his debut for his new club Umm Salal. The former El Jaish forward scored one in the first half and two after the break in a match that Umm Salal largely dominated.
For their part Al Shahania were missing key players and it showed as they failed to find their rhythm and didn’t register any major chances throughout the entire match.
Al Shahania kicked off the first half after winning the toss and was looking to secure their second win of the season.
The opening ten minutes was a scrappy affair with Umm Salal having slightly the more penetrating of the attacks.
Attacking midfielder Tuncay Sanli had the first big chance of the game when and in-swinging cross from the left was met by the Turks head but frustratingly for his side, he could keep it down (11’).
Umm Salal started to take hold of the game as Shahania sat further and further back. The newly promoted side couldn’t stop making unforced errors that almost lead to a goal when Abdulgadir Ilyas’s shot was deflected yet the keeper just managed to keep a hold of the ball (20’).
On the 31st minute of the game Tuncay was through on goal courtesy of a hoof and hope approach, the defender completely missed the ball and the Turk elected to go round the keeper. However Shahania keeper Amer Amri clearly brought him down. The referee inexplicably decided to not give the decision.
It turned out not to matter greatly as Abdulgadir Ilyas for Umm Salal went on a run and smashed the ball from the edge of the box for the game’s opener.
The next twenty minutes saw a period of poor play from both sides. A series of off side decisions against the Umm Salal attack continued to frustrate head coach Bülent.
The referee blew for half time and al Shahania head coach Jose Fernando would be the busier of the two men at the half time interval after a lackluster display from his charges.
After the restart Abdulgadir Ilyas continued where he left off. The second goal started from another unforced error from right back Shami Hassan Al-abdulia.
The new Umm Salal striker was calm under pressure in the box with a classy finish as he took his time and chipped the keeper for his second of the night.
Straight after the goal Shahania coach Fernando substituted his right back who was clearly having a day to forget.
On 71 minutes Umm Salal substitute Dheyab Hassan Alinabi came close when he saw his effort turned round the post by Shahania keeper Amer Amri. The referee however didn’t see it that way and gave a goal kick.
Then just when it seemed that Al Shahania were finally getting a foothold in the game, they lost the ball high up the pitch and Tuncay Sanli took full advantage when he broke forward and put Abdulgadir Ilyas in on goal. The tall center-forward showed some great footwork before dispatching the ball for his hat trick (80’).
With ten minutes to go the Oryxes pilled men forward but they never looked likely to score on a night when Umm Salal were clearly too much for the home team.
