Lekhwiya versus Al Sadd matches in the Qatar stars League are generally considered to be some of the most exciting with plenty of rivalry and goals. Despite the fact that the rivalry only started recently (Lekhwiya first came into the QSL in the 2010/11 season).

The first ever match between both sides was played in November 2010 in Round 9. Lekhwiya managed to win the game courtesy of a solitary goal scored by Mohamed Razaq in the 79th minute, this was the first ever win for Lekhwiya over Al Sadd.

The second confrontation was in the same season on the 1st of April 2011 which this time ended in favour of Al Sadd (2-1). The goals came from Youssef Ahmed and Ali Afif, while Dame Traore scored Lekhwiya’s only goal. During that season Lekhwiya succeeded in winning the league title for the first time, Al Sadd however finished in an underwhelming 6th spot.

The following season (2011/12), both teams met in their third clash and Al Sadd won by one goal scored courtesy of Mesaad Al Hamad, then Lekhwiya redeemed themselves in the fourth meeting by winning 2-1 with goals from Dagano and Nam Tae Hee, while Khalfan scored for the Wolves. Again, Lekhwiya won the league title for the second consecutive year and Al Sadd finished in 4th spot.

Al Sadd gained the upper hand the following season (2012/13), when they won by three goals courtesy of Raul Gonzales, Ibrahim Majid and Khalfan Ibrahim.

Then in the return leg Lekhwiya failed to get revenge with the match ending in a tie 2-2. Al Sadd won the title and this time Lekhwiya had to settle for second place.

Lekhwiya had to wait until the next season (2013/14) to regain bragging rights as they won 3-2 with goals coming from Nam Tae Hee and Sebastian Soria. Khalfan scored both goals for Al Sadd but it was too late as the Red Knights ran out winners. In the second half of the season, Al Sadd compensated their fans by winning 2-0. However, the real joy of the season went to Lekhwiya as they won their third title and Al Sadd finished in 3rd.

In the most recent encounter last season, Al Sadd won first 3-0 with goals by Nadir Belhadj, Tabata and Khalfan. Then Lekhwiya got their revenge in the second half of the season by winning with a solitary goal scored by the Slovakian Vladimir Weiss. Lekhwiya won their fourth title and Al Sadd came second.

In the last five years, both Al Sadd and Lekhwiya met 10 times, Al Sadd has won five games, whilst Lekhwiya has won four with only one match ending in a draw.

Be sure to come see the Wolves take on the Red Knights in Round 10 of the Qatar stars League this Friday Nov 27 at 18:30.
