The fourth round of QSL action served up another set of matches crammed full of goals and attacking play. Four strikers stood out for their sides this weekend, grabbing crucial goals in the battle for QSL points.
Mubele magic gives Ahli the points
D.R Congo star Firmin Muble put in another fine performance this week aiding his Al Ahli side in a 2-1 victory over Al Arabi in the derby. Mubele scored a spectacular overhead kick back in round three and produced another strike of quality to open the scoring on Friday evening.
Exhibiting good close control, Mubele deftly flicked the ball over an Al Arabi defender with his right foot before watching it drop and hammering it home on his left to give the lead. Mubele was lively throught the tie giving the Al Arabi defense plenty of problems.
Mubele now has four goals from four QSL games, and if he can continue this form he could fire the Brigadiers into the Qatar Cup places. More encouraging for head coach Luka Bonačić will be the understanding Mubele has struck up with captain Meshal Abdullah, this could prove to be fruitful come the end of the season.
El Arabi a natural fit at Lekhwiya
Another week, another stand out performance from Lekhiwya striker Yusef El Arabi. The Moroccan international moved to second in the goal scoring standings this week, after bagging a brace for Lekhwiya in their narrow 3-2 win away from home against Al Wakrah.
With just ten minutes on the clock, El Arabi tapped into a empty net from a Nam Tae Hee cross to open the scoring for his side. Whilst just eight minutes later El Arabi doubled up his and Lekhiwya’s score, notching again from close range.
Djamel Belmadi’s side seemed to have found a striker with a killer instrict in the penalty box, something they had been missing in the last couple of seasons. El Arabi will be looking to continue his goalscoring exploits when Lekhwiya take on Al Arabi in the QSL match of the week in round five.
Zeballos settling in well at Wakrah
Paraguayan attacker Pablo Zeballos grabbed a brace in Al Wakrah’s narrow 3-2 defeat to Lekhwiya. Zeballos has quickly found his feet in the QSL, and now has three goals from four QSL games.
His opening strike on the 62nd minute showed plenty of composure when it mattered for the Blue Waves. Latching onto an accurate Mouhcine Moutouali through ball, Zeballos turned on the pace to go past Lekhwiya defender Chico Flores. A calm striker into the bottom right hand side followed to give his side a lifeline.
With 82 minutes on the clock the Paraguayan hit man struck from the penalty spot to make it 3-2 on the night. Wakrah are currently in the relegation places, and will be targeting their first win of the season against struggling Muaither next time out.
Garcia goal saves Al Rayyan
Spanish striker Sergio Garcia struck an injury time equalizer to give QSL champions a share of the points against El Jaish last night.
Michael Laudrup’s side didn’t carve out many chances against Jaish in the second half, despite dominating possession. Thankfully for them with 93 minutes on the clock, Garcia slammed in from distance for his first goal of the QSL season.
The former Espanyol man was duly mobbed by his team mates, who were visibly relieved to have avoided defeat for the first time this season. Garcia will now be looking to build on his goal scoring form in round five when Rayyan with take on Al Kharaitiyat.
