Al Kharaitiyat secured a vital 2-1 win against fellow strugglers Al Wakrah on Sunday evening to pull them out of the relegation zone. The Thunders made a dream start to the game mid-way through the half as Moroccan midfielder Anouar Diba headed in the opener. The returning midfielder has proved to be the difference maker for Ahmad Al-Ajlani’s side in recent weeks and his second goal of the season could be a crucial one come the end of the season.
Al Khor’s diminutive Brazilian Madson grabbed a brace as Jean Fernandez’s side ran out 3-1 winners against Al Sailiya. Three minutes into the tie, Madson found the back of the net with a drilled shot to give the Knights an early lead. After weathering Al Sailiya pressure, Madson was in the right place to score his side’s second goal late in the second half. The former Santos man has been absent in recent weeks and his timely return to form will boost Khor’s survival chances no end.
Table topping Lekhwiya put in a comprehensive performance as they brushed aside Al Gharafa 3-0 in the QSL match of the week. Djamel Belmadi’s side were relentless in attack and looked comfortable despite the absence of both Yusef Msakni and Yusef El Arabi who have headed to the 2017 AFCON with their respective national sides. Qatar international Ismael Mohammed stepped up for the Red Knights and notched a goal and an assist in the tie. The wingers pace in the final third was a constant threat for the Gharafa defense and ultimately aided Lekhwiya in maintaining their place at the top of the QSL standings.
Jaish attacker Sardor Rashidov has been a regular for stars of the league over the season and the Uzbekistan international didn’t disappoint in round 15 having a say in three of his side’s four goals as Sabri Lamouchi’s side ran out 4-3 winners against Al Arabi. Rashidov provided a valuable assist to Romarinho as Jaish raced into a two goal lead with just ten minutes played. Two goals from Rashidov in the second half, including a stunning 91st minute winner secured the win against the odds for Jaish, who were reduced to nine men in the final minutes of the game.
Second placed Al Sadd maintained the pressure on top of the table Lekhwiya with a gritty 1-0 win over a resilient Al Ahli side. Without leading scorer Bagdad Bounjah, Jesaldo Ferriera gave a start to striker Meshaal Al-Shammeri. On the 55th minute the youngster repaid the faith placed in him by the veteran Portuguese tactician, showing plenty of composure in rifling the ball into the back of the net for the only goal of the tie. Al-Shammeri will now be targeting a starting place on Friday evening when Al Sadd take on Lekhwiya in the strand out fixture of round 16.
