Shahania made the mother of all comebacks to get a deserved victory away against Umm Salal at the Suhaim bin Hamad stadium this evening.

Before the match the boys in blue (Shahania) found themselves in second last place but with the victory they have now overtaken Al Wakrah, but the blues waves will be playing tomorrow and could once again leapfrog Shahania.

First blood went to the visitors Shahania when defender Mohammed Attiya latched on to a fierce low drive from the right wing courtesy of midfielder Fahad Khalfan(2’).

But it didn’t take long for Salal to restore parity, the boys in white won a free kick on the edge of the box (left) and Waleed Mohyaden sent in a pacey in-swinger which missed everyone and floated into the back of the net.

Umm Salal then made it two just before the break when Jeremie Aliadière was fouled in the box, the Frenchman picked himself up and scored from the penalty spot in the 48th minute.

Into the tunnel the two teams went and Umm Salal had ended the half in the lead.

In the second half Umm Salal picked up where they had left off as some good work down the right released former Turkish international Tuncay who then squared the ball into the box for Tamer Jamal Othman who did the rest from just 3 yards out.

That was to be the final goal for Salal, as the game suddenly took a different trajectory. Shahania had 35 minutes remaining on the clock and in the end it proved to be enough as they fought back from a 3-1 deficit to win the match.

The fight back started with a route one ball from Shahania defender Mehrdad Pouladi, it was inch perfect for Masoud Shojaei who controlled the ball beautifully before dispatching it past the on-coming keeper.

Mehrdad Pouladi then turned goal scorer with a ferocious strike from 35 yards out, which went flying into the top left corner. Umm Salal looked to be in shock having let a two goal cushion fall by the way side.

The winner was a controversial decision as the referee awarded a penalty after Baba Malek was deemed to have fouled Fahad Khalfan.

Mehrdad Pouladi stepped up and converted the penalty to take all three points for Shahania, it was only their 5th win in the Qatar Stars League this season. The Oryxes now have 18 points from 20 matches.  Umm Salal moves down to 7th
