Al Rayyan coach Michael Laudrup will be looking for a reaction from his side when they take on Al Arabi in a highly anticipated derby on Thursday evening. The Danish coach gave his thoughts to the local media ahead of the match.
Laudrup opened up the press conference stressing that Rayyan’s game against local rivals is a must win for his side.“It’s a game we want to win, especially after losing we need to get back to winning again. We want to maintain our third position in the league, for AFC Champions League qualification.”
“Al Arabi need some points in the last two games so they will be looking to get a result. Our last two games are with teams involved with this relegation fight which will be a test for us” added the Danish coach when asked about his Thursday evening opponents, Al Arabi.
Laudrup ended the press conference revealing he will be without two players ahead of the derby. “I have not decided if we will make changes against Al Arabi with the Champions League in mind. Right now we have to focus on the game ahead. We will be without Tabata and Daniel Gomu for this match against Al Arabi, and that will be something we will have to cover.”
Al Arabi are in danger of being pulled into a relegation dog-fight if they are unable to get a result from their final two games of the QSL season. Arabi boss Osvaldo Olivera spoke with the local media ahead of the match.
Olivera opened up the press conference stressing the importance of the Thursday evening derby match. “It’s a crucial game for the team, we have to win. It’s been a short turn around from the last match so we have focused on the mental side of the game for our team. Al Rayyan are one of the best sides in Qatar, and we need a result from the game.”
“I came here to help the club, and I have done the best that I can. We now need to come together in these final games and do the very best for Al Arabi, because our situation is difficult” added the Brazilian coach.
Olivera ended his press conference with a word on The Dream Team’s relegation woes. “Al Arabi has suffered this season, we have missed key players at times. With a reduced number of players I am trying my best in this tough moment.”
