Qatar’s Al Rayyan has been knocked out of the 30th GCC Club Cup after they could only manage a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the semifinals against Oman’s Al Seeb at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium yesterday.

The first leg had finished with a scoreless draw between and the return leg saw the match end 1-1. This meant that the Omani side progressed to the finals on away goals rule. Al Rayyan conceded a goal in the 33rd minute and was chasing the game from then. 

The Qatari club scored the equalizer through Rodrigo Tabata in the 79th minute but couldn’t find the back of the net one more time. Al Rayyan’s home advantage didn’t help as their fans grew increasingly frustrated. 

They went into the match having being thrashed by El Jaish 5-1 in the quarterfinals of the Emir Cup and that loss might have demoralized the team.

In the end Tabata’s contribution wasn’t enough and despite the Brazilian having scored four goals in the competition so far, the Qatari club couldn’t go any further. 

Al Seeb will face UAE’s Al Shabab who defeated Al Nasr 2-0 yesterday to progress 3-1 on aggregate.
