Season looking increasingly bleak for the Blue Waves
With the QSL season taking a three week break due to international competition, QSL online has decided to asses each team in the league, to look at how they have done so far this season. First up, we focus on the leagues bottom side Al Wakrah, who currently have fourteen points from twenty three QSL games.
Rooted to the bottom of the standings, and seemingly set for relegation it’s certainly been a season to forget for the Blue Waves. The side from the south of Qatar started the season with Mauricio Larriera, however after a miserable start of the season the Uruguayan coach was dismissed and duly replaced by Tunisian coach Kais Yâakoubi.
The new man in charge rang in the changes with the playing staff changing the south American duo of Pablo Zeballos and Pablo Oliveira with two players from Africa in Youssoupha Mbengue and Prince Ibara. Unfortunately the change in strikers has’nt worked out as Yâakoubi would have liked.
Realistically for Al Wakrah their only aim now is an 11th placed finish, which would see the Blue Waves play a relegation play-off against the second placed side in the Qatar Gas League. At least two victories from their final three QSL games against Al Khor, Umm Salal and Al Sailiya could give them a chance.
However the odds look slim considering they have only picked up two victories so far this term. Over the course of the season, Wakrah have also lost thirteen of their league games, along with eight draws. Which certainly makes grim reading for fans of the Blue Waves. Now the hard work begins for Yâakoubi who will use the three week break to give his side confidence to get the most out of the final three games, and somehow beat their almost inevitable relegation.
