Round 25 saw the QSL title awarded to Lekhwiya whilst the relegation of Al Shahania was confirmed. As ever in our weekly column talking points, we round up the moments that mattered.

Lekhwiya champions at the death

Lekhwiya needed a 95^th minute winner from South Korean international Nam Tae Hee to seal their fifth QSL falcon shield in seven seasons, to defeat Al Ahli 2-1. With both Lekhwiya and Al Sadd drawing heading into the final moments of their respective games, it seemed that the title race would be heading into the final round of the season.

However Lekhwiya’s stand out player this season Nam was in the right place at the right time to tap in from close range as the clock struck the 94^th minute. The victory means yet another title for Red Knights who will be looking to target a domestic treble by adding the Qatar Cup and Emir Cup to their trophy cabinet.

Oryxes confirm relegation

Al Shahania confirmed their relegation to the second division with a 1-1 draw with Al Khor on Friday night. Igor Štimac’s side took an early lead before Khor levelled up on the 33^rd minute through Moroccan attacker Mouhcine Iajour. In the second half Jean Fernandez’s side produced a defensive masterclass to shut out the Oryxes and ensure their relegation.

Top Scorer confirmed

The race for the Mansor Muftah award for the leading scorer in the QSL season has been all but decided for this season.  Al Sadd attacker Bagdad Bounjah on 23 goals will be unable to overtake Yusef El Arabi on 24 goals this season, after it was confirmed that the Algerian attacker will miss his sides final game of the season against El Jaish after picking up a fourth yellow card of the season against Al Sailiya.

Al Kharaitiyat and Umm Salal finding Emir Cup form

Round 25 of the QSL season also two sides maintain their impressive form in the league, meaning that they could be peaking at the right time for a run in the Emir Cup.  Al Kharaitiyat have now registered five wins from their last six QSL games with their 2-0 win over already relegated Muaither. Umm Salal continued their strong form took their undefeated streak in the league to seven games, with a 2-2 draw with Wakrah. Both sides will now be targeting a strong finish to the final game of the season.
