Tough test for top of the table Al Sadd against Gharafa
QSL side Al Gharafa will be hoping that they can spoil the Al Sadd party when the two rivals face off against each other on Saturday evening at Gharafa stadium.
It’s been a frustrating start to the season for the Cheetahs who are currently sitting in tenth place with just four points from four QSL games. Pedro Caixina’s men looked set for all three points against Al Shahania last time out, before a last gasp penalty denied them. Gharafa will be eager to make amends against the top of the table side.
One man who will be looking to impress will be new signing Rashid Sumaila. The former Qadsia center back impressed on his debut against Al Shahania and brought some much needed stability to the Gharafa backline. Pedro Caixina will certainly be hoping for more of the same, especially against a Al Sadd attack who have been nothing short of rampant so far this season.
In front of goal, Al Gharafa will be hoping that Hungarian hot-shot Krisztián Németh can refind his scoring touch. Németh has only scored once so far this season, and the 27 year old’s attacking talents will be needed, should Al Gharafa come away with a result.
As for the visitors Al Sadd, they have started the league season impressively and have rocketed to the top of the QSL standings. The Wolves have ten points from four QSL games and have yet to taste defeat this season. Last time out, Sadd brushed aside newly promoted Muaither 4-2.
Central to Sadd’s free flowing football this term has been attacker Bagdad Bounjah. The Algerian international has six goals in four QSL games, and continued his prolific form with a fine volley against Muaither last time out. He’ll be charged with leading the line for Al Sadd against a Gharafa side who has improved defensively in recent weeks.
Another player crucial to the Al Sadd cause on Saturday evening will be Ali Asad. The Qatar international midfielder has been working hard in the center of the park alongside Xavi, and has registered a couple of assists so far this season. Asad will be in a midfield battle against Al Gharafa’s Kooky Han and if the 23 year old can come out on top, it could be crucial for his side’s chances.
Certainly promises to be an interesting matchup when two old rivals in Al Gharafa and Al Sadd cross paths in round five of the QSL season. You can pick up tickets for the match here.
