Umm Salal 1-1 Al Ahli
Al Ahli was undone by another last minute penalty as the Brigadiers settled for a 1-1 draw against Umm Salal at Al Gharafa Stadium tonight.

Before the international break, Ahli had endured a similar result against Al Sailiya. They were leading 2-1 and conceded an equaliser from a penalty in the 93rd minute.

The first goal of the night came when Qatari striker Abdullah was brought down by Mohamed Maliki on the right flank. Younis Ali Rahmati stepped up to take the freekick for Ahli and his cross found the skipper who broke away from his marker and headed the ball in. Such was his delight that Abdullah even did a somersault after scoring the opener!

In the second half Salal, who had claimed a morale boosting victory over Lekhwiya in their previous match, made a couple of changes. Andranik Samarani replaced Jeremie Aliadaire and Nasser al-Khalfan came in place of Adel Alsoleymani.

The changes seemed to work as they started to build more attacks and gain control of the midfield. But it took them till the very end of the game to find the equaliser. Yannick Sagbo was brought down by John Benson in the 86th minute and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. The Ivory Coast striker made no mistake and converted the penalty.

There were four added minutes for both teams to find the winner but neither could. With this result, the three-point gap that existed between the two teams continues and Salal have temporarily claimed fourth place in the standings. Al Ahli is still in sixth and in need of a plan to stop conceding last minute goals.

Al Wakrah 4-1 Mesaimeer
A Sebastian Saez hat trick propelled Al Wakrah to a 4-1 win over Mesaimeer at Al Gharafa Stadium. Wakrah had come into the match on the back of two consecutive losses but those losses came against tough opposition (Al Rayyan and El Jaish). They were just two places above the relegation zone and that made this match a must-win situation for the Waves.

It therefore must have come as a big relief for Waves fans when Argentine striker Saez opened the scoring early on in the seventh minute.

Mesaimeer who were also looking for a win chose to play open game instead of keeping things tight. This meant that both teams were able to create chances as the ball went from end to end with regular frequency.

The first half however ended goalless.

In the second half, it was Saez again with an early goal, scoring within three minutes of the restart.

Despite the two-goal advantage, Wakrah didn't stop attacking.

Mesaimeer had a few chances to get back into the game; however they were punished for their profligacy in front of goal as Saez scored again in the 75th minute to complete his hat-trick.

Mesaimeer were then able to reduce the deficit two minutes later when Brazilian frontman Erivelto scored from the spot. But by then it was too late for the Torches as they entered the final 10 minutes of the match.

Wakrah were quick to respond and keep their three goal advantage when in the 81st minute playmaker Mouhssine Moutouali scored.

This was a well-needed win for Wakrah and they produced the goods in a must win match.

Mesaimeer had 15 shots at goal out of which only three were on target.

During the pre-match press conference, Wakrah Head Coach Jose Mauricio had said that his team deserved more points and this victory will go a long way in boosting the confidence of the players as they go into Round 10 of the Qatar Stars League.
