Confident Al Sadd aim to follow up Classico win

El Jaish vs Al Sadd
18:30, Al Gharafa Stadium

Al Sadd will be full of confidence going into Monday’s QSL Match of the Week against El Jaish (kick-off 18:30).

It’s second against third at Al Gharafa Stadium as Jesualdo Ferreira’s Wolves take on Sabri Lamouchi’s Soldiers.

Sadd claimed Qatar Classico bragging rights on Thursday night after a pulsating 2-1 victory over league leaders Al Rayyan. Jaish, meanwhile, slipped to a third defeat in a row on Wednesday following a 3-2 reverse against Umm Salal.

Coach Ferreira will be hoping the Classico win reignites Sadd’s season. The Wolves went into the match on the back of two defeats but produced a spirited display against high-flying Rayyan – a team full of confidence after winning their opening 11 games.

Sadd are now nine points behind the Lions and will be aiming to reduce the gap at the top before the winter break.

Up until week ten, Jaish looked as if they would be the team to challenge Al Rayyan for the title. They were unbeaten after nine matches thanks to seven wins and two draws. However, defeats to Al Rayyan, Qatar Sports Club and Umm Salal have derailed the Soldiers’ title hopes, and they’ll be desperate to pick up a confidence-boosting result against Sadd.

Sadd will again look to influential captain Xavi Hernandez in the centre of the park, while Hamza Senhadji and Muriqui will be expected to cause problems for the Jaish back line.

Jaish’s main players this season have been Abderrazak Hamdallah and Sardor Rashidov. The forwards have terrorised defences throughout the campaign and will need to be on top form against Sadd.

It promises to be another exciting battle between two of the QSL’s leading sides. This match is one not to miss.

Lions aim to rediscover winning formula

Al Rayyan vs Al Ahli
16:00, Al Gharafa Stadium

Al Rayyan will be desperate to return to winning ways against Al Ahli (16:00 kick-off) after losing the Qatar Classico.

The league leaders slipped to their first defeat of the season on Thursday night as Al Sadd claimed local bragging rights following a 2-1 victory.

The result brought the Lions’ record-breaking winning run to an end, but Jorge Fosatti can be proud his players became the first team in QSL history to win their opening 11 games.

Sebastian Soria and Rodrigo Tabata misfired against Al Sadd, and the pair will be aiming to rediscover their form at Al Gharafa Stadium against a side currently sitting in ninth place.

Tabata is the form man in the QSL this season and currently boasts the most goals and assists. Coach Fosatti will be looking to his talismanic captain for more inspiration against the Brigadiers.

Al Ahli have had a mixed campaign so far. Zlatko Kranjcar’s men are without a win in their last five matches, and were thumped 4-0 by reigning champions Lekhwiya last time out.

However, despite sitting in the lower half of the table, Ahli have picked up some creditable results this season, including draws against high-flying El Jaish and Umm Salal. Coach Kranjcar will be looking for his men to follow up those performances with another resolute display against the league leaders.

Red Knights aim for five in a row

Mesaimeer vs Lekhwiya
18:30, Al Arabi Stadium

Reigning champions Lekhwiya have rediscovered their mojo and will be looking to make it five wins on the spin against lowly Mesaimeer at Al Arabi Stadium on Monday (kick-off 18:30).

The Red Knights have scored 17 goals and taken maximum points from their last four matches – a run which included a morale-boosting 4-2 win over Al Sadd.

Djamel Belmadi’s men have certainly answered their critics of late and will be confident going into a match against a side on only four points.

Mesaimeer have struggled in their first QSL season, but are slowly becoming familiar with the pace of the top flight. Despite their recent improvement, including a draw against Al Ahli, it’s hard to see anything but a Lekhwiya victory in this one.
