Al Rayyan striker Sergio Garcia has been announced as the QSL player of the month for January. The former Spanish international picked up the award at training on Monday evening.
Garcia has been on fine goal scoring form in the month of January notching three goals in the four games he took part in. The goals from Garcia aided the current QSL champions to win all five of their games in the month of January, and push them up to third place in the QSL standings.
Another important point to note is that the Spanish attacker also provided two assists for his team-mates as Al Rayyan scored 11 goals in five QSL games in January. Garcia picked up his first goal of the month against Umm Salal as the Lions ran out 1-0 winners in a game that saw two Al Rayyan players sent off.
The next weekend Garcia opened the scoring as Al Rayyan eased to a comfortable 4-0 win over Al Sailiya. The Spaniard’s fine January in front of goal was rounded off with a well taken goal against top-4 rivals El Jaish as Al Rayyan won again 4-1 to jump into third place in the QSL standings.
Garcia has been integral to Al Rayyan’s upturn in form in the league and it’s no wonder he picked up the coveted award. Michael Laudrup will be hoping that Garcia can continue his good form into February, especially when Al Rayyan take on title chasing Lekhwiya in the QSL match of the week for round 20.
