Frustration for Sadd as they draw 0-0 with Umm Salal

League leaders Al Sadd dropped points in their quest to pick up their first QSL title since the 2012/2013 season with a 0-0 draw against Umm Salal on Thursday evening at Qatar SC stadium. The Wolves did all the work in front of goal, but was unable to convert their chances in what was a frustrating game for head coach Jesaldo Ferriera. To cap off a miserable night for Al Sadd, winger Hassan Haydoos missed a last-gasp penalty for his side. 

The first half was a quiet affair, with Al Sadd predictably bossing possession however the league leaders were unable to convert their dominance into any clear-cut chances. The first half ended honours even at 0-0. 

Umm Salal came out on the attack in the second half, despite being without key striker Yannick Sagbo they registered the first chance of note in the game. Brazilian defender Anderson Martins produced a trademark free-kick from distance which flew just over the Al Sadd cross bar. 

As the second half progressed Al Sadd laid siege to the Umm Salal goal, looking for than all important winner. On the 89th minute Hassan Haydoos picked out international collogue Ali Asad with a drilled cross however his first time scooped shot thumped off the cross bar. Whilst in the 92nd minute of the tie leading scorer Badgad Bounjah turned his man well, but his shot skidded just wide. 

Al Sadd were given a lifeline on the 94th minute, when the referee pointed to the penalty spot after Ali Asad was bundled down in the area. Hassan Haydoos stepped up for the Wolves but his penalty struck the post before the referee blew up for the final whistle. The result leaves Al Sadd with 54 points from 23 QSL games.
