The QSL match of the week will see recently confirmed QSL Champions Lekhwiya take on already relegated Al Shahania on Saturday the 15th of April at Lekhwiya stadium.

Djamel Belmadi’s side needed a late goal from South Korean midfielder Nam Tae Hee to defeat Al Ahli 2-1 and confirm their status as champions for the fifth time in seven QSL seasons. The Red Knights could be without Chico Flores and Tunisian midfielder Yusef Msakni, though injury as the pair missed out on the Ahli encounter.

With the league title already assured, Belmadi may elect to shuffle his squad with challenges in the AFC Champions League, Qatar Cup and Emir Cup left ahead. New Brazilian striker Edgar Da Silva is likely to have a role in the match, especially with Lekhwiya having a tough AFC Champions League encounter with Iranian side Esteghlal Khuzestan five days previous.

As for Al Shahania, they have been formally relegated to the second division after their 1-1 draw with Al Khor. Igor Štimac’s side took an early lead through on loan striker Saoud Al-Khalaqi, before Khor drew level through Mouhcine Iajour. The Oryxes pushed hard in the second half for a winner, however they were expertly shut-out by Khor.

With relegation confirmed, Al Shahania can play with some measure of freedom against the champions. Head coach Igor Štimac would certainly love to sign off the domestic season with a headline grabbing win over the Red Knights. Spanish defender Álvaro Mejía has been a rock at the back this season for the Oryxes, and the former Real Madrid man will have to be at his very best to thwart one of the best attacks in the QSL.

It certainly promises to be an interesting encounter as the QSL champions Lekhwiya take on Al Shahania on Saturday evening at Lekhwiya stadium, you can pick up tickets for the match here.
