
Kharaitiyat come from behind to defeat Al Sailiya
Al Kharaitiyat picked up their fifth win of the Qatar Stars League season with a 2-1 victory over Al Sailiya. Playing at Al Khor Stadium, Al Kharaitiyat came from behind to win after conceding a goal in the 17th minute which was scored by Dragos Grigore. However, Al Kharaitiyat hit back through Mohammed Saad and Mohamed Abdulrahman.
The match kicked off with a flurry of fast-paced moves around the midfield but neither side could make any genuine inroads inside each other's the penalty boxes. Al Sailiya, however, produced a magic moment to take the lead in the 17th minute. Grigore’s well time header from a near-perfect corner kick, found the back of the net leaving the backline of Al Kharaitiyat shocked.
Eight minutes later, Al Kharaitiyat's Anwar Diba launched a ferocious drive from 25 meters but his shot sailed just above the Al Sailiya crossbar. Fortunately for the Thunders a clumsy clearance by Sailiya keeper Gregory Gomis saw Al Kharaitiyat draw level in the 30th minute. Following a penalty box melee, goalkeeper Gomis failed to punch the ball away confidently and the ball landed near the feet of Saad who calmly slotted a shot into the net.
Four minutes into the resumption of play, Al Kharaitiyat's Abdulrahman helped his side take lead, heading one in from close range. Abdulrahman produced a snap-header after a good cross from Uzbek winger Sanzhar Tursunov. The Thunders held out some late Sailiya pressure to grab all three points, and give themselves a fighting chance to avoid relegation.
Al Arabi down Al Gharafa 2-0
Al Arabi seemingly turned a corner in the league with a impressive 2-0 win over Al Gharafa on Thursday evening. Goals from Luis Jiménez and Yusef Ahmed powered Al Arabi to their 7th win of the season.
Al Gharafa started the game on the front foot.In the third minute, Al Gharafa’s Othman Al-Yahri slipped in a beautiful ball for his fellow striker but Al Arabi goalkeeper Rajab Hamza produced a diving stop to kill the threatening move.
Al Gharafa's Abdulaziz Hatem produced a left-foot strike towards the Al Arabi goalmouth in the 12th minute but his shot was blocked again by goalkeeper Hamza. A couple of minutes later Arabi registered their first chance of note, however veteran midfielder Talal Al-Bloushi’s chipped effort was easily saved by Gharafa keeper Yousef Hassan.
After a tame first half, the second half opened up and Al Arabi opened the scoring through Luis Jiménez who grabbed his 8th goal of the season in the 49th minute. After picking up a loose ball on the edge of Al Gharafa box, Luis swivelled around and placed a left-footed shot towards the far right of goalkeeper Ali who could do little to stop the ball.
Al Arabi wrapped up the three points thanks to a solo run and strike by Yusef Ahmed on the 70th minute. The speedy striker made a lung-busting run with the ball before cooly curling his shot into the far corner to all but guarantee the win.
