Heo Jae-won strike gives Khor all three points. Al Gharafa 0 Al Khor 1
Al Khor ended their QSL season on a high, defeating Al Gharafa 1-0 in a feisty QSL game on Friday evening. Khor grabbed the only goal of the tie ten minutes from time through South Korean defender Heo Jae-won, who scored his first goal for the club.
Jean Fernandez’s side where the better side and created two clear cut chances in the first half. First up Heo Jae-won’s acrobatic effort brought a good save from Gharafa keeper Yousef Hassan.
At the stroke of half-time Brazilian striker Madson’s rasping free kick was pushed onto the post. The ball fell kindly to the onrushing Waleed Mohyaden, however the defender lacked composure and sent his shot well over the bar; The first half ended honors even at 0-0.
Al Khor looked the better side over both half’s and grabbed a deserved winner on the 80th minute. A sharp Waleed Mohyaden cross found its way to Heo Jae-won who was unmarked in the box. The South Korean defender stabbed the ball into the back of the net, to the delight of head coach Jean Fernandez.
The Knights held out the remaining ten minutes to register the win.
Afif the hero with late winner for Lekhwiya
Lekhwiya 2-1 Mesaimeer
Lekhwiya rounded off their QSL season with a 2-1 win over bottom side Mesaimeer.
The Red Knights toiled for much of the 90 minutes at Lekhwiya Stadium but managed to force a late winner through Ali Afif.
Mesaimeer took the lead early on as they aimed to claim only their second win of a miserable maiden season in the QSL. Erivelto Silva put Rodion Gacanin’s men in front in the ninth minute. Hazem Khaled did superbly to dig out a cross on the byline and Silva headed into the far corner for his eighth goal of the season.
Lekhwiya huffed and puffed, and finally got their equaliser in the 70th minute. Mohammed Muntari levelled the game with a fine run and shot.

And Djamel Belmadi’s men grabbed a winner in the 87th minute when Afif hammered the ball into the roof of the net after a scramble inside the Mesaimeer box. The goal was Afif’s first of the season.
The result confirmed fourth spot for Lekhwiya, who will face champions Al Rayyan in the Qatar Cup.
Mesaimeer finish the campaign with only six points but have shown enough heart in recent weeks to suggest they’ll have enough to challenge for promotion from the Qatar Gas League next season. Their points tally, however, is the lowest in the QSL since Al Sailiya took only four during the 2003/04 season.
