Rashidov at the double as Jaish defeat Muaither 2-1
QSL league leaders El Jaish relied on a double from Uzbekistan international Sardor Rashidov to quell the challenge of newcomers Muaither at Lekhwiya Stadium. Rashidov opened the scoring for El Jaish in second minute before helping his side find the winning goal with four minutes left to play. As for Muaither, their only goal was scored by Ayoub Ouadrassi in first half injury time.
The two teams barely settled in the game when Rashidov found the back of the net with a close-range shot.El Jaish defender Murad Hussein slipped a neat ball towards Rashidov - who under pressure from Ouadrassi - deflected the ball past Basil Zidan in the Muaither goal in the second minute.
After a numerous exchanges, Muaither - known for their resilient play rather than technical excellence on the pitch - found the equaliser through Ouadrassi . In injury time, Muaither's Mahmoud Zatara headed a lob ball towards Ouadrassi who tapped in from close range to tie iup the scores.
In the second half, intense battle for ball possession continued. But after much slog, QSL giants Jaish prevailed after Rashidov's second goal of the match. In the 86th minute, defender Yasir Abubakar produced the near-perfect lob ball for a header from the left flank.
The ball sailed above the head of Muaither's Mohamed Medhat and fell to Rashidov who easily headed the ball home from close range. Goalkeeper Zaidan could do little to block the well-taken snap-header from Rashidov. It was points leaders El Jaish's 9th win of the season from 11 games.
Al Ahli and Shahania share the spoils
Al Ahli took on Al Shahania in round eleven of the QSL at the Al Ahli stadium on Sunday. Two first half goals, one from each team and a scoreless second half meant that both sides left the game honours even with a 1-1 draw.
It didn’t take long for Al Shahania to open their account Abdulla Alyazidi scored in the eighth minute. Striker Fahad Khalfan dribbled the ball in from the left and attempted a cross which bounced off a defender back into his path, he then played it backward to Alyazidi who calmly passed the ball into the unguarded net.
With six minutes to go to half-time, Al Ahli leveled the scoreline thanks to Ndombe Mubele’s fifth goal of the season. Iranian midfielder Mojtaba Jabari played a defence splitting pass to the Mubele, who took the ball in his stride, beating the offside trap and powerfully shot the ball past the keeper, Khalifa Al Dossari, from close range to make it 1-1.
The first half ended with both sides level pegging. Al Ahli enjoyed the majority of the possession and had more shots on goal compared to Shahania who were on the back foot after scoring the early goal.
The second half saw an excellent double save from Al Shahania stopper Khalifa Al Dossari as he kept his side in the game. Apart from that, there was little goalmouth action as both sides seemed satisfied with a point to their name.
