Al Wakrah snatch point against Umm Salal

Already relegated Al Wakrah welcomed Umm Salal to the Al Wakrah Stadium for a QSL round 25 match on Friday. It was a highly entertaining match with both sides showing some excellent attacking prowess. A first half brace for Yannick Sagbo helped Umm Salal gain a point from a battling  Wakrah side, who came back twice to end the match at 2-2.

Umm Salal opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute courtesy of Yannick Sagbo. Faouzi Aaish squared the ball to Sagbo from the right and the Ivorian striker showed great instincts and deflected the ball into the goal from close range to make it 1-0 for the Orange Fortress.

Mohsine Moutouali then equalised for Al Wakrah in the thirty-first minute. After bringing down a cross from teammate Maher Yousef at the edge of the box, the Moroccan midfielder smashed the ball into the right side of the net to make it 1-1.



Ten minutes later Al Wakrah defender Mohammed Arafa brought down Umm Salal’s Mahmoud Mawas inside the box to give away a penalty. Yannick Sagbo stepped up for the penalty and coolly slotted it in the bottom right corner sending the keeper the wrong way to score his second goal of the game.

Al Wakrah did not give up the fight and were rewarded with a goal in the second half. In the sixty-fourth minute, Maher Yousef got his name on the score sheet with a wonder strike to bring his side level. The Qatari forward was outside the box on the left side before he sent the ball into the far bottom corner of the net with a powerful shot from distance to end the match at 2-2.

Kharaitiyat too strong for Muaither

Al Muaither took on Al Kharaitiyat in round 25 of the Qatar Stars League at the Al Gharafa stadium on Friday. After a goalless first half, The Thunders put two past Muaither to ensure the three points. Even though Muaither ensured their relegation in round 24. Philip Birrol's men were searching for a consolation win in order to end their QSL Season on a happy note.

They did well to prevent their opponents from scoring in the first half but two second half goals for Kharaitiyat extended Muaither’s winless streak to seven. The Oryxes, will now face Al Ahli in the last round of the season and they will be looking to end their disappointing season with a win.


Ahmed Al Ajlani’s men took the lead with a goal from their Moroccan Forward Rachid Tiberkanine in the forty-seventh minute. Another goal in the fifty-ninth minute by Uzbek international, Sanzhar Tursunov doubled the Thunder’s lead and ended the match at 2-0.

Kharaitiyat are on a great run of form as they have won five of their last six matches. They are now in the seventh position with thirty-one points. Muaither are already relegated and second from bottom with seventeen points.
