The QSL Round 22 maintained the joint lead by Lekhwiya and Al Sadd as the competition heats up between both teams to clinch the 2016/2017 QSL title.
Both teams continued their winning form as Al Sadd defeated Al Khor by four goals, while Lekhwiya overcame Al Sailiyah 2-1.

Al Sadd is still on top of the QSL standings with 53 points and ahead of Lekhwiya by goal difference. It was clear from their games that Al Sadd and Lekhwiya are pushing for the title and will keep doing so until the very last moments.

The competition also saw some action in the top four spots with Al Gharafa beating Al Rayyan by two goals to one and El Jaish defeating Al Ahli 2-0. Despite the loss Al Rayyan is still third with 44 points, while the difference between El Jaish (4th position with 42 points) and Al Gharafa (5th with 37 points) is 5 points.

Both Umm Salal and Al Arabi achieved victories to secure their places in the safe zone. Umm Salal overcame Muaither by one goal to reach 29 points in the 6th position, followed by Al Arabi who registered a win over Al Wakra by three goals to one to reach 26 points and are now in the 7th position.

On the other hand, the defeats of Al Ahli and Al Sailiyah put both teams within danger of relegation, especially after Al Kharaitiyat won 3-1 against Al Shahaniya.
The results pushed Al Kharaitiyat up in the league standing to the 8th position, with Al Ahli in 9th position and Al Sailiya in 10th position.

Way down in the bottom of the league, the struggle got very intense between Al Khor, Al Shahaniya, Muaither and Al Wakra following the defeats of all four teams in Round 22.
As anticipated, Round 22 fixtures witnessed lots of the excitement and strength as well as fierce competition with lots of variations in the results.

Round 22 saw 21 goals, which is 6 goals less than the previous round. The competition for the top goal scorer continues between Lekhwiya striker Youssef Al Arabi and Al Sadd striker Baghdad Bounedjah both of whom have scored 22 goals.
